The Eight-Fingered Criminal's Son - Clif the Lawyer and Various Other Book Mojo Makers

About a year ago, I met for breakfast with my old amigo Clifton Batchelor, also known as Clif the Lawyer. I call him Clif the Lawyer because he's a dentist. Actually, he's not a dentist; he's a lawyer, but it would be so much more ironic if I called him Clif the Lawyer while he was actually a dentist. The point is it was Clif the Lawyer who convinced me to team up whim him to compile and publish a collection of my stories. Clif spent countless hours working with me, editing, revising, researching publishing options, formatting text, and working on the cover design. If not for Clif, The Eight-Fingered Criminal's Son would not exist. I want to take the opportunity to publicly thank Clifton Batchelor.

While I'm at it, I'd like to thank my old pal Robert Sanchez for personally financing the bound version. When the book was released on Amazon, my daughter Lindsey Hernandez and my sister's childhood friend Mandy Treckman Martes took it upon themselves to spread the word and between the two of them, they were probably responsible for 50 e-book sales. Pete Ledesma, co owner of The Book Frog, has offered to carry the book. And Brett White, owner of Chandler Auto and Tire, has also agreed to carry the book. How cool is that, selling a book at a garage. Bryan Frank, John Marciolonis and Tony Frink were kind enough to help out with the editing.  Finally, John Baker is plugging the book on Cougar Town, the Hawthorne High School Website http://cougartown.com/feedback.html.

Countless old friends and family members have supported this venture. I realize that 126 e-book sales is a far cry from the Times Best Seller List, but it's a nice start. And it's pretty cool to have the support and encouragement from so many people. It feels a little bit serendipitous. Wait, I'm not the kind of guy who uses words like serendipitous. I'm the kind of guy who says something like it feels like there's some serious good mojo connected to The Eight-Fingered Criminal's Son and I'm feeling like a pretty lucky schlep.

Awe heck, I forgot to thank Brady "Cat" White, Dickey "Tom Jones" Imburgia, Ian "Moon Doggie" Welch, Joel and Amy Fricke, Jayden White, and Wayne "Geege' Mossbarger for the 3 whacked out promotional videos.

The Arizona Justice League of Photographers in Old Town Scottsdale

The Arizona Justice League recently got together for an early Sunday morning shoot in Old Town Scottsdale.
Of course the Banana was there too.

Clif the Lawyer pointed out that this was an interesting piece of art. Too bad the artists got the letters backwards.

The banana was lurking. The banana is always lurking.

Can't tell you why, but I dig doors on old buildings.

I was playing Peter Pan, trying to catch my shadow.

Couldn't resist the white against the blue Arizona morning sky.

The green and blue was working for me too.

Anybody else ancient enough to remember Roy and Dale and Trigger?

"In the name of everything that's good Clif, get the hell out of there!"

Cowabunga!

Going Bananas on Mill Avenue

The yellow one was with the Justice League on Mill Avenue.
Here's of a shot of the big yellow guy making his presence known to Clif the Lawyer.

Clif the Lawyer likes a good time just as much as the next guy. But the banana just wouldn't leave him alone. Big Yellow actually caused Clif to miss a nice bus shot. But did Clif lose his cool? Heck no, Clif the Lawyer's got enough patience to be a doctor.

Here's the the banana with four runners warming up for the P.F. Chang's Marathon.
One of the girls shouted in a German accent, "HEY, WHY ARE YOU PHOTOGRAPHING A BANANA?"
To which I adeptly replied, "I, I DON'T HAVE THE SLIGHTEST IDEA!"

The big guy looms high above Mill Avenue in the high rise parking garage with Clif, Rick and Casey.

Here I am trying to get artsy with the banana and a windo reflection shot. Looks like I'm all about bananas and reflection shots.

The big banana didn' make it to the end of the shoot. I got hungry. There will be other bananas and other shoots.

The Arizona Justice League of Photograpers On Mill Avenue

The Arizona Justice League of Photographers recently ventured out to Mill Avenue in Tempe
From left to right are Rick the I.T. Guy, Casey the Chef, Clif the Lawyer and Yours Truly.

Mill Avenue runds along the Western side of Arizona State University. Lined with gorgeous ficus trees and dotted with coffee shops, book stores, restaurants, bars and funky curious characters, it's a fantastic place to take a few pictures on a crisp January morning. It's also a great place for a date. My wife and I took a cozy stroll along Mill Avenue on the night we met.

These two characters were kind enough snap a few pictures of our crew. They introduced themselves as Lucy and Ricky, a couple of wandering Bolivian billionaires. It's not every day you meet wandering Bolivian billionaires.

This is Mill Avenue's name sake, the Hayden Flour Mill. The structure is nearly a hundred years old and rumored to be haunted.

I tried to get artistic this time around.

Clif the Lawyer came up with the idea of climbing up to the top floor of a parking structure for some top of the world type shots. My acrophobia was in full swing.

Here's a reflection shot into a glass building. If you look closely you can see Clif and me snapping away from the top of the structure.

Here's your run of the mill girl with a cat on a leash and kid holding a sword with a cat on his shoulder. I asked him what the sword was for and he just laughed, scary like. I laughed too, as I walked away, real fast like.

No big deal - a picture of a guy standing in front of a phone booth talking on a cell phone.

How about a picture of a guy standing in front of a phone booth talking on a banana?
Yeah, that's what I thought...

Here's Clif the Lawyer under the lush cover ficus trees having a conversation with one of the Mill Avenue regulars.

Really don't know what to say about this head shop window photo. Just thought it looked kinda cool in an every little thing goanna be alright kinda way...

This bus obviously made it's destination. I'd like to know what the launch point was.

This is a shot of All Saint's Catholic Church across the street from ASU. Over a hundred years old, it's the oldest house of worship in greater metropolitan Phoenix

Here I am trying to be mister artistic photographer guy.

I thiught the light flashes between the orange tree leaves might make a good picture.

I know what you're thinking. Where the heck are the goof ball banana shots?
Next week, friends. Next week.

The Arizona Justice League of Photographers and the Banana go to Canyon Lake and Tortilla Flats

The amazing photographs on this posting are available for your viewing pleasure thanks to blogger, Kavita of India...

Armed with a tank full of gas and a few cameras and a fresh banana, the Arizona Justice League of Photographers headed East of metropolitan Phoenix to do their thing at Canyon Lake and Tortilla Flats.

Clif the Lawyer barely eludes a giant banana. You're reading the sign right - it does say 14 feet, 3 inches.

Clif the Lawyer gets up close and personal with a giant banana.

Former New Christy Minstrels singer, Eric the Photographer has no idea of what looms behind.

Too late...

When a banana's got to go, a banana's got to go.

The giant bananas are absolutely ubiquitous.

Clif the Lawyer, Eric the Photographer and Rick the IT guy exchange banter in the presense of the giant banana.
The banana shares a few stories and jokes with Clif and Eric.

Clif the Lawyer has a Blog and Arizona Justice League of Photographers Rides - the Train II

I'd like to take this opportinity to blatantly plug fellow Arizona Justice Leaguer, Clif the Lawyer's new blog. Check him out at :

http://www.fatesensation.com/photoblog/

Clif the Lawyer is one of the smartest guys I've ever known. And he's got an unstoppable left handed hook shot.

Here are a few of my shots from the Arizoona Justice League's train shoot.

Artsy, huh?

It's alive.

At some point hanging out with talented photographers like Eric the actual professional photographer, Clif the Lawyer and Mario the Chef will start to rub off on me.
Or not.

Here is another of my failed attempts at a group shot.

I fully intend to post a few of Mario the Chef and Eric the Photographer's shots this week.
What did one hat say to the other?

You stay right here, I'll go on a head.
